Luis de Guindos was Secretary of State for Economy between
2002 and 2004, and in 2006 he was named President of
Lehman Brothers in Spain and Portugal, after having been a
member of the European Advisory Council for this entity. Mr
Guindos held this post until September 2008.
Currently, Luis de Guindos is responsible for the financial area
of PricewaterhouseCoopers in Spain. He joined the company in
November 2008 as part of an ambitious growth program.
Luis de Guindos has also worked for the European Union, where
he was Vice-president of the Committee for Economic Policy, as
well as a member of the Economic and Financial Committee up
until July 2003.
Before arriving at the Spanish Government and for a period of
eight years, he presided over the prestigious financial entity AB
Advisors Morgan Stanley. In 1996 he was named General
Director of Economic Policy and Defence of the Spanish
Competence, going on to become General Secretary of this
institution in the year 2000, a post which he would hold for 2
Finally, he has also been part of the board of directors of
different Spanish public companies such as RENFE, the Institute
of Official Credit or the State Society of Industrial Participations
(SEPI). He passed the official exams to work as Commercial
Technician and Economist of the State, achieving the highest
results that year.
Born in Madrid in 1960, he holds a degree in Economics and
Business Studies from the Colegio Universitario de Estudios
